Q. | What does my policy cover? |
A: | The policy will cover against burglary of, or damage to the equipment that is not excluded by the policy. For full details you should read the policy wording available on this website. |
Q. | What equipment does the policy cover? |
A: | Protecsure’s policy covers the equipment purchased. If you wish to cover accessories/hardware peripherals i.e. carry bags, printers, scanners, additional memory, this must be included as part of the original equipment purchase. We can cover iPhones and other PDA's, but we do not insure lower value mobile phones. On our quote tool you may wish to try insuring PDA's and laptops for periods more than 12 months to get better value. |
Q. | What is accidental damage? |
A: | Physical damage that occurs as a result of a sudden, unforeseen and unexpected event. The event must arise from a single identifiable incident, for example a liquid spill. |
Q. | What incidents of burglary does the policy cover? |
A: | Forcible entry to buildings, residences & vehicles (must be locked), |
Q. | Is software covered under this insurance policy? |
A: | Software is not covered, other than any factory installed operating systems. |
Q. | What is the geographical scope of the insurance? |
A: | The insurance will cover you anywhere in Australia and its Territories. It will also cover your equipment overseas, provided that the trip does not exceed 28 days. Please call us if you need cover for more than 28 days overseas. |
Q. | How do I make a claim? |
A: | In the event of damage, the equipment should be taken to the place of purchase or an authorised repairer for inspection and to obtain a quotation for repair. In the event of burglary, the incident should be reported immediately to the police. A claim form is required to be completed and sent to Protecsure for assessment. Further information on how to lodge a claim is available on this website, or contact Protecsure’s claims department on 02 8270 6400. |
Q. | What settlement will I receive in the event of a total loss? |
A: | The insurer’s liability is limited to the original purchase price. On successful claim for a total loss the insurer has several settlement options available. - Replacement of the equipment with equipment of equal specification and capacity
- Cash settlement based on the original purchase price
The basis of settlement is at the insurer’s discretion. |
Q. | In the event of a total loss if I decide to purchase higher specification equipment than the one originally insured, what will happen? |
A: | The insurer’s maximum liability will always be limited to the maximum declared sum insured of the equipment. Also if the insurer can source equivalent or better equipment at a sum less than the sum insured, this obligation ceases on payment of that amount less the excess. If you choose to purchase more expensive equipment you are able to pay the difference in value. |
Q. | What is not covered by the insurance? |
A: | - The excess amount stated on the certificate
- The cost of replacing expendable parts such as fuses and batteries.
- Theft when the equipment is left unattended, unless reasonable precautions have been taken to safeguard the equipment. The precautions would include:
- Securely locked away - Left in supervision of a responsible person - Locked in a car - Damage as a result of, or during air, sea or train travel unless the items are carried as personal cabin luggage.
- Wasting, wearing away or wearing out of any part which arises from ordinary use or gradual deterioration including rust, corrosion or oxidation.
- Bruising and scratching is excluded.
- Consequential loss – for example the loss of data held on the equipment.
- If there is collusion by any of the named insured or their families or if there is disappearance of any kind where the equipment is hired or lent to another party.
The above is a brief summary of the exclusions and you should refer to the actual policy wording for full details. |
Q. | What else should I know? |
A: | As well as the exclusions above, every insurance policy has conditions that place some onus of responsibility on the insured. This is referred to as "duty of care". For example, the policy specifically excludes any loss or damage if the insured item is stolen from an unlocked vehicle. Where any loss occurs the matter must be immediately reported to the Police. Failure to do so may jeopardize the rights of the insurer. Also, it should be noted that if the insured is travelling by plane, boat or train, to ensure cover, it is preferable for the equipment to be carried as an item of personal cabin luggage. |
